I'm reviewing First Words: English, but there are also French and Spanish editions available.
I love so much about this book that I'm not quite sure where to start; the concept, the quality, the illustrations or the word choices.
OK, let's start with the concept. The concept is just so darn cool!
The book is structured similarly to travel guides and phrasebooks, but is simple enough that youngins will be able to learn and benefit from this book -- and fall in love with other languages in the process!
There are 100 words per book, and there is one word per double page spread. Seriously, you get your money's worth with this one. Also, there is a free audio pronunciation guide which can be accessed on the website.
The illustrations are breathtakingly attractive. I mean they are just yummy! They are brightly coloured, clever and exciting to look at.
I read this book to my 16-month-old as a sort of 'first words' book, though that's not its intended use. He was very excited by the 'banana' page. Oddly enough, so was I.
At any rate, this book is highly recommended. The quality is fantastic!
If your little guy or gal is going to be travelling soon, or is curious about other languages, snag a copy for them. So worth it.
