Review: The Uncorker of Ocean Bottles

Have you ever put a message in a bottle and set it afloat? This story is about all those bottles sent out into the world and what might happen to them.

In The Uncorker of Ocean Bottles, a nameless, lonely man spends his days finding and opening any bottles he finds at sea.
 The Uncorker is always looking for bottles and when he finds one, he makes sure it is delivered to the intended recipient. His deliveries take him on journeys through through the four seasons, through sunshine, wind and rain.

One day a bottle arrives with an unusual letter inside. It's not addressed to anyone in particular and it has an invitation to a party, and it's one with a deadline.Unsure who it belongs to, the Uncorker sets off to find the rightful owner.

For the first time he has no luck, so he decides to attend the party himself and it's there he finds new friends and discovers what real treasures they can be. 

Author Michelle Cuevas' story has been beautifully illustrated by the award-winning Erin Stead, whose images convey such emotion.

The text and the colours and perspectives of the illustrations set a tone that starts off melancholic, but ends with hope and joy. It's a story that will warm your heart (and quite likely prompt message to be put in bottles and set free).
