Mystery Box: Inside our polka dotted box, we found two ROBOTS!

A blue one and a pink/purple one!

I found this cute couple on Etsy! It is a printable pattern that I laminated and assembled. (I wanted to purchase a toy robot but it was difficult to find anything inexpensive that was large enough for the kids to see from the back of the room so I went with this and it did the job!)

Prop Song:
I’m a little robot smart and strong
Here are my buttons, just turn me on
Press the red button and I will say
Hello to all my friends today

Can you say hi to the robots?

Robot Song:
The arms on the robot go up and down, up and down, up and down
The arms on the robot go up and down
All day long

Other verses:
Feet/clickety clack clack
Lights/ on and off (with a flashlight!!)

Books We Read:
I Love My Robot- Church (great intro to robots for this age group)
Big Bot, Small Bot: A Book of Robot Opposites- Rosenthal (fun!)
If You’re a Robot & You Know It- Carter (MAGICAL!! everyone LOVED it so much!!)

Flannel Board:  Hide and Seek Robot Game (so cute from from Read, Rhyme and Sing)

First we counted the colorful dots on the felt board. Then I told everyone that my friend Robot was hiding under one of the dots and we needed to find him. We said: Robot, Robot! are you under the COLOR dot?

This really held their attention!

Craft: Stand Up Robots

I found these cute color and fold robots here. I just printed on white cardstock and pre-cut them (with a little extra space at the bottom to make it easier to fold and tape but they stood up ok on their own as well.) I gave every child a sparkly star sticker to put on their robot. Very fun!

Lots of compliments today!! Two large groups for both sessions. I am always nervous that kids won't like this theme but the Carter book was like storytime magic! I just love when the parents laugh at one of my books. this felt board was much better than the 4 Little Robots one that I used a couple of years ago. I wanted to do the Lots of Dots book because it went great with my flannel board but there was just no time! GREAT day!
