Review: Goldilocks and the Three Potties

Hi Leigh Hodgkinson, it's me, your biggest fan-girl.

To everyone not named Leigh Hodgkinson, if you enjoy quirky, fresh picture books, then stop wasting time!

Don't even finish this sentence. Go to your local bookstores and snatch up one of her books! Now!

What are you still doing here?!

In all seriousness, Hodgkinson lives in a world that I want to visit. It's swirly and sweet and gentle and strange. Just... lots of fun adjectives, really.

This particular story is about a little girl named Goldilocks who is learning all about the ins and outs of potty training.

And let's face it -- even as adults, sometimes the potty isn't quite the right fit for our tushes. So imagine what our littlees are up against, getting used to the chilly porcelain throne.

This book is a gentle yet fun nudge in the potty training direction, in the form of a fractured fairy tale. What's not to love? My son had me read this through three times in a row when it arrived at our house.

Hodgkinson's illustrations are funky, bright and interesting. For this book, it's a little bit drawing, a little bit collaging, a little bit texturing, and a lot of just the right mix of media.

By the way, since you're still reading this, go check out Hodgkinson's Troll Swap. It's also super fun, and a family favourite.

Oh and Leigh... give me a call, mmk? We'll do lunch while I stare lovinginly into your eyes as you tell me how to make such super, awesome, magical, sprinkly, lollipopsicle stories.
