Thoughts for Thursday: Confessions

If we were sitting down having coffee together this morning, there would be a lot on my heart to share with you. A few things we would talk about:

\\ Julie mentioned on her blog a few weeks ago how she's cut down on the play dates with friends, because she noticed when she did, she got more quality time with her boys. I was a bit hesitant at first to do that, but once I cut back our play dates to one or two a week {as opposed to four or five}, I have felt like I've gotten so much more quality time in with my boys. Yes, it does make the days feel a bit longer, but I close my eyes at night feeling so positive about the special one-on-one {well, I guess one-on-two} time I've gotten with my boys. So thanks, Julie! ;)

\\ Speaking of the boys, Walker started karate on Monday and y'all, it has been great for him. My aunt is a therapist for Early Childhood Intervention {with a focus on kids ages 0-3}, and she mentioned that karate is great to help teach kids discipline, respect and self-control, all of which our little "threenager" needs some constant reminders of these days. But seriously, he can't see me through the two-way glass mirror, and I think that helps a lot. And it's just precious to watch him put on his little uniform and see him in action out there on the mat. It's a bit hectic wrangling Knox in the waiting area twice a week during the witching hour, but hey, I'm willing to bring all the snacks, toys and games for him if it benefits Walker!

\\ The dreaded Mom Guilt has been rearing its ugly head lately and making me second-guess putting Walker in preschool for three days a week in the fall. Although I know he will do great and will prepare him for Kindergarten in a mere two years {sob}, I know I'm also going to miss him, too. Thankfully it's only five hours a day. ;)

\\ I mentioned it on my Instagram Stories a couple of weeks ago, but Knox isn't walking. At all. He's been checked for hip dysplasia {negative} and has been tested to see if he can appropriately bear weight on his legs {positive}...and the pediatrician thinks it's simply a lack of caring. Lovely. He is a super fast crawler -- and I do mean speedy quick -- and has a three-year-old brother who gives him anything and everything he wants, so he just knows he can get to where he needs to go by crawling and/or from his brother. He'll walk behind his walker toy, but really only does it for a minute and wants to get down and crawl away and play with his cars and trucks. So, that's been fun. And the questions I get, statements made to me, {and accompanying looks, too} are the best

+ "So, do you just not work with him?" [No, I just sit on my butt all day staring at him.]
+ "Well, my kid was walking at nine months!" [Snaps for your kid!]
+ "Oh, I'm so sorry." [Me too.]
+ "He really needs to be standing unassisted on his own by now." [Thank you, I had no idea.]

It's just been hard to hear, hard to witness and hard to not compare him to his brother, who was walking before his first birthday. I know he'll do it when he's ready and on his own time -- and won't go to Kindergarten not walking -- but your mom heart just hurts a bit when you want your kid to do what others his own age {or younger} are doing and he won't due to his own stubborn will.

\\ But speaking of things Knox does do, he has started saying, "Mmmm-mah!" when he gives kisses and it melts my heart into a thousand tiny pieces. He also knows our little bedtime routine and, as soon as I close his favorite book and switch on his sound machine, he immediately starts saying, "Shhh, shhh, shhhh!" It gets me every time! He's also my little cuddle bug and lays his head on my shoulder for a few minutes each morning after he wakes up and I just love that precious time with him.

\\ I am getting to the point where I absolutely love this blog and all of the precious ladies I have met through it, but I don't ever want it to become a "job" or feel like one. I do it because I love the creative outlet and the sweet friends I've made through it -- not for the {very little} money, fun stuff we get to try out, or companies I've been thankful to work with. If I ever feel like I'm getting affirmation from the number of "likes" on my Instagram posts or comments on my blog, then I'm in it for the wrong reasons. All of that to say, thank you to those of you who stop by this space to read about our {probably boring} day-to-day life. Some of you have probably never commented, but just know how much I appreciate you stopping by my little place of the Internet.

I hope this didn't all sound like whining, but man, it feels good to get some of this off my chest. Thank you for "listening" to me today!
