This little kangaroo from Uluru was born with a kinky tale that resembles a third leg. He dislikes the way others make fun of him. His friend Emu encourages him to ignore the taunts.
Along come two surfer boys whose van has taken a wrong turn in the night, and ended up in the outback instead of the beach. They ask for directions.
The little kangaroo has never seen waves. What has he to lose? He joins the boys and finds that what others see as a negative can be turned into a positive. With the right attitude and choice, life can change in an instant.
Michelle Worthington’s books carry strong messages. They encourage, inspire and empower children to improve themselves, have confidence and believe they can. This delightful book is another example of how positive beliefs can change lives.
The text is bold like the messages it carries. Excellent word play, rhyming and repetition of sound, adds rhythm. The illustrations by Dave Atze are joyful, fun-filled and every page has a smile on it. The characters are happy Australian animals in large images against the Australian outback in vivid earthy colour.
This is an ideal book for children who need assurance and confidence that things are not always as bad as they seem, and frequently can be transformed into something better.
