Mystery Box: Inside our polka dotted box, we found TOOLS!A saw! A screwdriver! Etc.
Where do you keep your tools? In your toolbox!
Passed out paper toolboxes (see craft photo) to everyone for the "Hold Your Toolbox Up High" rhyme.
Books We Read:
Pretend & Play Toolbox- Yoon (very cute! held up the wrong tools first so the kids could say "NOOO!" until the right tool fit in the book page like a puzzle.
Since this book features a cute little Birdie and ends with a super cool newly built pop-up birdhouse, it seemed like the perfect time for my yellow Folkmanis bird puppet to make an appearance...
Puppet Song: My Little Birdie
(tune: This Old Man)
My little birdie one day old
She can do what she is told!
Sleep little birdie
Sleep, sleep, sleep!
Sleep little birdie
Sleep, sleep, sleep! (close eyes and rest head on hands like you are sleeping)
My little birdie two days old
She can do what she is told!
Tweet little birdie
Tweet, tweet, tweet!
Tweet little birdie
Tweet, tweet, tweet! (tweet motion with hand)
My little birdie three days old
She can do what she is told
Hop little birdie
Hop, hop, hop!
Hop little birdie
Hop, hop, hop! (self explanatory, LOL!)

Prop: Five Little Nails Homemade book
i wasn't crazy about many of the tool themed books I had for this age group BUT i loved this rhyme so at the last possible moment, I printed out five homemade pages to show while we said the rhyme. worked really well! Thanks Mel's Desk! You saved me once again...
Five little nails, standing straight and steady
Here I come with my hammer ready!
Bam, bam, bam! That nail goes down.
Now there’s just four nails to pound.
(count down)
Craft #1: Printable Bob the Builder finger puppets
Craft #2: Mini Toolboxes with tool stickers
I found a simple toolbox printable on makinglearningfun.com so i printed them on colorful paper and cut them out. we also used these for our rhyme earlier in the program.
i purchased some cute little adhesive foamie tools from OTC so i handed these out while everyone worked on their puppets and kids made their own little toolboxes.
Two nice groups today, great size, a little loud but still a fun day!
