Thoughts for Thursday: Coffee Talk
If we were sitting down having coffee together this morning, there's a lot we would talk about. A few things:\\ My heart has just been so heavy the last nearly two weeks. Seeing and hearing all about Hurricane Harvey and the aftermath of it is enough to take your breath away. Don't even get me started about the people -- especially Texans -- who haven't even acknowledged it. And now Hurricane Irma.
And, a precious friend lost her dear mother-in-law not even three months after a cancer diagnosis and my heart just ached for her family. It was all just so much and I truly did feel this huge weight on my heart that I just couldn't shake. I was reminded of the verse in John 16:33 and it gave me so much comfort: "I have told you these things so you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
By no means is the aftermath of this hurricane over. It won't be over for months and months and months, even though we'll go on our merry ways and life as we know it will continue as it has been. By no means will Emily's life ever be the same without her mother-in-law. Just do me a favor today and let bygones be bygones. Forgive. Say "I love you" before you hang up the phone. Our time on this earth is just so fleeting.
\\ And yes, that above was heavy. But it's the truth, and it's how I'm feeling and have felt. It's been so hard to try to live normally and go on my merry way posting about recipes and our love story and pictures of my kids -- even though I know we do all have to return to "normal" at some point.
But since I'm trying to get back to a sense of "normal," I'll now share with y'all some of the other random things floating around in my mind:
\\ I feel like the office staff at a doctor/dentist/chiropractor/etc. really do make a night and day difference. I have had some really bad encounters with the office staff at the boys' pediatrician lately and it has been enough to make me think about switching doctors. I'm not going to since I know we'll be moving in about a year or so, but if I'm honest, I'll say it definitely has crossed my mind over the last week.
\\ We have officially signed Knox up to start MDO in January! He's so attached to me (seriously, I call him "my little tree frog" because he's always on my hip) and he needs a few hours once a week to learn how to be apart from me. I know he and I will both cry when the big day comes, but I know how great it's going to be for him. He'll be 20 months, and Walker was going one day a week at his age and learned a ton, so I'm really excited for him!
\\ I'm so glad college football is back. It truly is the "most wonderful time of the year." I love me some college football and always cheer loud for my Baylor Bears, even when they lose the season opener to a small school in the FCS. Womp womb. But on that note, we would love to go to Baylor Homecoming this year, but I'm not sure if I'm just wishful thinking over here. Walker would do great, but Knox might be melting down. We shall see...
\\ We have had some weather lately that has really had me excited for fall. Usually it's still in the low- to mid-90's here in Texas in September (with the humidity out in full force) but we've had low- to mid-80's here currently (with way lower humidity) and it has been so, so nice. Now I think I'll decorate for fall this weekend... ;)
\\ Knox is still going strong on his morning nap and I'm secretly loving it. I thought he was ready to drop it a few weeks ago after taking only 45-minute morning naps for about a week, but he went right back to taking 2-hour naps a week later and has ever since. Yes, it's difficult to get out and about and do things, but those hours between 9-11 a.m. are so precious to me. They're a great time to spend with Walker when he's not at school, and when he is, it's a great time for me to clean the house, get dressed, blog, etc. I'm going to miss that morning nap when it's gone!
\\ Walker's new thing is, "I forgive you." Most of the time he totally uses it in the correct way, but sometimes he doesn't and it's hilarious. If I say that we're out of yogurt, for example, he'll say, "It's okay, Mommy. I forgive you." Ha! But, I got frustrated with him the other day and he came up to me, hugged me and said, "Mommy, I forgive you." Of course I felt horrible, but I also died laughing. I love those sweet reminders from our kiddos!
\\ Can I admit to you how cool I'm not? My Amazon orders lately have been diapers, a new vaporizer for Walker's room, reward stickers for Walker's sleep chart {his favorite show lately is "Fireman Sam"}, and...disposal cleaner. Seriously. Disposal cleaner. Who is this adult?! But seriously, I bought it on a whim as our disposal was smelly and I was out of lemons to chunk down it, and it really does work! I'm officially talking about disposal cleaner on my blog. *Insert monkey-covering-its-eyes emoji!*
