Review: The Wolf, the Duck and the Mouse

Just when you thought the Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen duo couldn’t get any funnier, any quirkier, out they come with The Wolf, the Duck and the Mouse.

In this hilarious and unpredictable story, a mouse gets gobbled up by a wolf. 

But inside the wolf the mouse meets a duck, who has happily set up home there because…well… there isn’t really anywhere safer than inside a wolf, right?

Together, the duck and the mouse live it up in the wolf’s belly, until a hunter enters the forest and chaos ensues. 

The duck and the mouse must work together to save the wolf, which is, of course, also their beloved home. 

With Klassen’s recognisable and superb illustrations, the book is a visual delight. Greys and greens and browns splatter and fill the pages and Klassen uses his magic powers to inject bucket-loads of emotion and expression into his funky illustrations.

If you’re a fan if this amazing author/illustrator duo, The Wolf, the Duck and the Mouse does not disappoint. It’s jam-packed with funny, has oodles of quirky, it’s fun and silly and extremely entertaining.

Probably for slightly older children, as some of the concepts might be hard for very young kids to grasp, I think this one is perfect for kids aged five and up and makes a fabulous addition to your Barnett/Klassen collection.
