Seattle Schools, Week of December 4-9
Of note from the district Communications:Snow and Winter Weather Notification Information
Make sure your info is up-to-date so you don't miss a notice.
Tuesday, December 5th
Audit & Finance Committee (Quarterly Meeting), 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at JSCEE. Agenda not yet available.
Special Education Northwest Regional Meeting from 6-7:30 pm at Ingraham High School.
Wednesday, December 6th
Regular Board meeting at JSCEE, starting at 4:15 pm. Agenda
It's a relatively light agenda and that's probably good, given there are two new Board members.
Of interest on the agenda is the approval of the Transition Enrollment Plan for 2018-2019 with one amendment from Directors Burke and Harris.
This Board Action Report amends the Student Assignment Transition Plan for 2018-19 to delete assignment pathway changes scheduled for implementation in 2019-20 and combine them with high school boundary approval to be implemented in 2019-20. This will provide better clarity for families in their school enrollment planning.
The 2018-19 SATP for introduction to the Board includes provisions which are intended to take effect in the following year (2019-20) with a series of high school boundary adjustments. This has been identified as potentially confusing to families and students when they consider enrollment options. Also by setting the 2019-20 assignment guidelines in this BAR, staff would not be able to adjust both high school boundaries and pathways in a thoughtful and complementary manner.Thursday, December 7th
This amendment would essentially be a clerical change moving specific language from the 2018-19 SATP into a separate guiding document to be approved along with high school boundary adjustment.
Work Session: Superintendent Search Engagement Process from 2:30-4:00 pm (a very odd time for a Work Session but that could be because there is also a Work Session that afternoon) in the Board conference room at JSCEE.
Operations Committee meeting from 4:30-6:30. No agenda yet available.
I note that the committee assignments have not been updated so I'm not sure where Mack and DeWolf will land. I believe there will be a vote upcoming for a new Board president, vice-president and member-at-large.
There appear to be no more director community meetings on the calendar for this year.
