Review: The Rainbow
The Rainbow is a beautiful exploration of colour and how different colours relate to the Australian outback. The land bakes red.
The dawn glows gold.
The hills fade violet.
This is a concept-type picture book with few words, but the words Moriarty chooses to describe the features of the land are dazzling.
And the accompanying illustrations pull you into wild country, where kangaroos, echidnas and emus roam free.

This is a gorgeous picture book, equally great for very young kids and classrooms of older kids. It makes a great learning tool and could be used as a fun and interactive way for kids to learn their colours.
But it provides much more than that.
The Rainbow is also an exploration of Australia and the unique features of the Australian outback. It’s a beautiful journey across the land as the hot sun sets, rises and travels across the sky.
Like Moriarty’s picture book Who Saw Turtle?, at the back of the book, the story has been repeated in Yanyuwa, the local language of Aboriginal families in Borroloola, Northern Territory, Australia.
This is such a gift, to children and adults alike, providing classrooms and families a special opportunity to learn the words of a beautiful language.
With bright and colourful illustrations and inspiring words, The Rainbow is a true delight to explore.
