This middle grade novel is action-packed! From start to finish, it's a fast-paced, addictive ride. It grips you from the first chapter, spreading tendrils of mystery into your brain, holding you captive until you reach the very last page.
I don’t want to give too much away because the story is best experienced when you unravel all the secrets for yourself, but the bones of the story are this:
Ottilie Colter and her brother Gully live in the Swamp Hollows — a series of caves where some of the poorest of society find shelter. They have little. They fend for themselves. They are each other’s whole world. Until Gully disappears.
Ottilie hears whispers of young boys being snatched, so she heads into the unknown to find her brother. What she discovers will change her life, and Gully’s, forever, because the people who took Gully are hiding something none of the captives could have ever imagined.
And they will all have to hunt it.
The story world in his novel is brilliant. Set in a world of kings and complex class systems, of ancient wars and mythical legends, it’s like nothing I’ve ever read before.
Filled with gruesome monsters, fantastical beasts and life or death challenges, its uniqueness is thrilling. Kids are going to love the mysteries and intrigue, and they will be HUGE fans of the action and adventure that never ever stops.
The characters, too, are strong, real and relatable. They are characters with sass, inner strength, courage and strong ideals. They are characters every reader is going to want to be.
Rhiannon Williams is a master of words, and this amazing new series is one to grab onto now so you can be part of what is sure to be a middle grade sensation. And, yes, I did say series. Ottilie Colter and the Narroway Hunt is only book one, so there is still more to come!
