A Bit About Me

Happy Monday, y'all! Walker was sick all weekend long with a fever that just wouldn't break, so we laid low and I have absolutely nothing to write home about. My weekend highlight included sneaking away for two hours to get a manicure and pedicure with a girlfriend, cleaning my house top to bottom and washing anything that could fit into my washing machine.

So since that's no fun at all, and because I feel like there are a few new faces around here, I thought I'd do a little reintroduction and a bit of "getting to know you."

My name is Brittany, and I've been married to my husband, Brandon, for nearly eight years. We got married Oct. 9, 2010, before Pinterest was a "thing" and I checked my Blackberry on on the plane when we got home from our honeymoon. ;)

We have two boys, Walker (4) and Knox (2). Never in my life did I picture myself as a boy mom, but I truly can't imagine our lives any other way. Even though I love to dress them in smocking, Jon Jons and Sun Sans when I can, they still love to run around outside like banshees, kick soccer balls with each other, accompany their dad to the golf course and wear T-shirts and shorts like any other little boy.

I'm a true Southern girl. I was born and raised in southeast Texas and grew up dropping the "d" on a lot of words and still to this day the accent comes back the second I'm on the phone with my Nana. I believe in personalized thank-you notes sent in the mail, making meals for people after they have babies, and saying "yes ma'am," "yes sir," "no ma'am," and "no sir."

I was very fortunate to be raised in the same town as my grandparents and we lived catty-corner from my dad's brother and his family (my uncle, aunt and their two kids who were exactly my age) and across the street from my dad's sister and her family (my aunt, uncle and cousin). We went to the same Baptist church as my grandparents and aunt, went to the same schools as all of my cousins, and I would see my grandparents weekly for sleepovers or just at church. It was truly a wonderful place to grow up and I'm sad my children won't get that same small town upbringing.

I attended Baylor University and graduated in December 2008 with a degree in journalism/public relations with a minor in corporate communication. I'm your resident grammar freak and it kills me when I see grammatical errors of my own. I'm the one you'll see reminding you each Christmas season that it's "The Whitacres" on your cards as opposed to "The Whitacre's." I'm pretty passionate about that. ;)

I was a Zeta Tau Alpha at Baylor, but honestly wasn't very active now that I look back, wish I was more involved. Brandon and I met our senior years at Baylor in January 2008 in class for his major and my minor. We dated for two years before we got engaged on March 27, 2010. (I moved to Dallas a week after graduation and two days after Christmas for work.)

Before we had children, I worked for two separate public relations firms and then a local school district doing communications. My first job out of college was working for a PR firm representing Samsung Mobile, and then I moved to another PR firm and my main client was American Airlines. I was with them before, during and after their bankruptcy and through most of their merger and rebranding. I walked into American's headquarters the day (Valentine's Day, as a matter of fact) that they announced their merger with US Airways and walked out that night to a completely new company. Another cool thing I got to do in that job was work as part of Bud Light's PR team during Super Bowl XLV when it was in Dallas. There was a giant ice storm that practically shut Dallas down and I got the flu a week later -- and got to meet Chris Harrison and Ryan Cabrera! -- but it was worth it. It was a fun job with lots of cool travel, but it wasn't a job that was conducive to having a family. So, I left and started working in the communications department for a local school district. I met two of my best friends there and had a big mixed bag of emotions leaving to stay home with Walker in August 2015.

I'm now a stay-at-home mom and am very thankful and grateful for this opportunity. We spend our days doing fun things, going to fun outings and also just lazing around watching TV and playing on iPads sometimes, too. The boys attend preschool twice a week and we go to BSF once a week. It makes us all a bit more sane. ;)

Brandon and I love to travel, but we're also on a budget. We try to get away at least once a year together, and now that we have kids, try to take one family vacation, too. A special place for our family is Sandestin, Florida, and we love going there each summer.

Places we've traveled together include:

+ Orange Beach, Alabama (twice)

+ Antigua (honeymoon)

+ Cancún

+ Miami (Babymoon)

+ Fredricksburg, Texas

+ Jamaica

+ New York City (Babymoon #2)

+ Charleston

+ Scottsdale

+ Destin

+ Las Vegas

+ And Destin again

We love traveling and have some fun trips scheduled for 2019!

Brandon and I are both Christians and love the Lord. Our biggest prayer is that our children become Christians and love and serve the Lord however He leads them.
