Review: Want To Play Trucks?
Jack and Alex meet in the playground regularly. They each like to play with different things.
Jack likes trucks, especially ones with loud sirens or cranes. Alex prefers playing with dolls who wear colourful outfits.
They argue a bit, but eventually work out a way to play together so they both enjoy the experience.
Together they decide that a dress isn't the best clothing for driving cranes, but purple dungarees are.
And although Jack and Alex enjoy different things, they also enjoy some of the same things -- like ice cream. Both of them love ice cream!
Ann Stott has written a story that introduces the idea of differences in a way that young children can understand. It encourages children to look past what makes them different from each other, and find what they have in common.
Bob Graham's always beautiful illustrations are appealing and lend an extra gentle touch to the story.
A wonderful story for parents to encourage understanding of diversity, or support non-gender specific play.
