Review: Charlie's Adventures...in South Africa

Charlie is off on another adventure, and this time it’s in South Africa.

At the airport, family friends greet him, and they’ve heard just how good Charlie is with maps. 

They ask for his help to find a secret treasure, and everyone heads off on a wild quest, map in hand.

This is a fabulous picture book. It explores all the delights of South Africa as Charlie and his friends work to solve clues to find the treasure. 

Local animals, places, foods, music and language are weaved throughout the story so kids will learn about South Africa as they follow Charlie’s adventure.

Sophie Norsa’s illustrations are just beautiful. Colourful and funky, there are so many stunning details to explore on every page.

In book one in this picture book series, Charlie’s Adventures... in Hawaii, there was a map and a sticker at the back of the book so kids could mark Charlie’s travels to Hawaii. 

In this instalment, you’ll find a postcard and another sticker neatly tucked into a pocket at the back so you can mark this adventure as well.

Just like Charlie’s Adventures…in Hawaii, Charlie’s Adventures... in South Africa is a celebration of culture, diversity and friendship. It’s a beautiful way for kids to experience life in another country and is sure to ignite the travel bug in many.

So what is the secret treasure Charlie and his friends find at the end of the search? My lips are sealed. But I will say it is beautifully and wonderfully colourful.
