Review: Charlie
Charlie is a lion with lots of dreams. He’s clever and wants to do so many things, but can’t. In his imagination he’s free to roam about. But people are afraid of lions. What can he do to change their perception of him? Will a disguise help? The moustache he puts on seems to do the trick!
He goes to restaurants, art galleries, enjoys his favourite ice-cream, and even joins an art class. The disguise seems to work. No one is afraid of him anymore.
Tomorrow is another day. It holds new adventures and experiences. He can go anywhere he wants in his mind and nobody can stop him. Charlie proves to himself that in your imagination, you can become who you want to be.
This charming book is about the power of imagination. It is about becoming who you are, getting out and about, and seeing things differently.
The illustrations complement the text beautifully and the spread at the art gallery is hilarious, as all the portraits on the wall show men with a moustache, which puts Charlie at ease.
This picture book can be interpreted in many ways. It has an adaptable quality about it that invites the reader to translate the story in their own way.
