Review: Dinosaur Day Out

Kids love dinosaurs and here’s a great new picture book that’s fun and informative. Sally and Max visit the museum with their Dad. They enjoy pressing buttons, reading facts and interacting with all that the museum has to offer.

They have been most looking forward to seeing the dinosaur exhibition, but when they get there, it is closed.

Dad buys a book about dinosaurs instead, and they head to the city. Dad reads them the book as they walk. He tells then about the diplodocus, the pterodactyl, the tyrannosaurus rex and the stegosaurus. He’s so interested in his book, he doesn’t see what Sally and Max can see.

They are having their very own dinosaur adventure! They can see the dinosaurs roaming the city, standing behind buses and eating leaves from tall trees. They know the spinosaurus is swimming in the water beyond the bridge and the sarchosaurus is hiding in the lily pads.

Sally and Max have a fun afternoon out with Dad and learn all about the dinosaurs, even though they missed out on the exhibition.

This is a clever book where the illustrations tell a different story to the text and kids will delight in spotting the hidden dinosaurs whilst Dad obliviously keeps reading. There are some interesting facts about dinosaurs to satisfy the curious kids but it is all kept light heartedly within the story so there is no dense fact telling.

A lovely new picture book with a high-quality hard cover production and friendly illustrations that use a gentle colour palette of pale greens and blues.
