Review: More and More and More
More and More and More is a super fun and funky picture book about collecting things, collecting too many things and what happens when you collect too many things. There’s a wonderful message in the story about the dangers of consumerism and the accumulation of too much stuff.
But at its core, it’s a story of friendship — of connection and sharing hobbies and discovering that the ‘stuff’ around us is not as important as the people.
In More and More and More, Henry Harper, a funky little alien, is happiest when he’s collecting space junk. He meets Kate, who also loves collecting space junk, and together they collect everything they find.
But when their home begins to crumble beneath the weight of all their stuff, they must re-evaluate what’s important.
The lyrical, rhyming, flowing text in this book is magical. It’s so much fun to read aloud, and the illustrations are divine — funky and different and very cool.
I love that there is a clear and important message in the story but that it’s cleverly and masterfully disguised within a fun narrative. It allows kids to pull the message out at their own pace and in their own way.
Debut author and illustrator Ian Mutch is a talented wordsmith and artist. I want toys made out of his characters and I’d like to hang his illustrations on my walls.
I highly recommended checking out More and More and More, and I look forward to reading and exploring more of Mutch’s amazing creations.
