2. What is your nickname?
As a child my family called me CJ (Carrie Jane) and Caz.
3. What is your greatest fear?
Forgetting how to find joy in life. That would be so sad.
4. Describe your writing style in ten words.
Lyrical, whimsical, child-like, natural, simple and meaningful.
5. Tell us five positive words that describe you as a writer.
Organic, inspired, joyful, scribbly, coffee.
6. What book character would you be, and why?
Gah! I cannot answer that question!
7. If you could time travel, what year would you go to and why?
Maybe the 50’s or 60’s, simply because I like the fashion and music!
8. What would your ten-year-old self say to you now?
Let’s go play in the garden! And I would say to my 10 year old self, ‘You are loved, just as you are!’
9. Who is your greatest influence?
I think our flaws and struggles can create our greatest purpose, or influence. It creates our ‘why’ in what we do. For example, I found reading very difficult as a young child, and that drew me to teaching, and later on, writing stories for young children. Faith is very important to me too.
10. What/who made you start writing?
Children, teaching and being immersed in books.
11. What is your favourite word and why?
I’m not sure…. definitely not ‘moist’ though! Unless it’s related to chocolate cake.
12. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I rarely read the same book twice. Anything that encourages wisdom and kindness as a reminder of what really matters in life.
Carrie Gallasch is an early childhood teacher in rural South Australia. Her passion for children’s literacy began when she first experienced reading aloud to her students. Now with children of her own, Carrie has an excuse to follow them barefoot in the garden and be inspired by the mischief they get up to. She loves nothing more than a great story and a great coffee, but not necessarily in that order.
