Junior Review: Pennies For Hitler
Pennies for Hitler is a fascinating novel by Jackie French, who I think can create magic with her descriptive words.Pennies for Hitler is a book about Georg, a young boy in the 1940s who is living in the middle of World War ll where the Germans were killing Jews. His mother sent him out of Germany where he was being hunted because he had Jewish blood.
Throughout the book he travels all around the world to find somewhere that is safe from war and Germans. He meets and loses many friends because of the war.
What I like about Pennies for Hitler is that it teaches people about the War and what children had to go through during that time. It also explains that most people thought Hitler was a hero, until they found out how millions of people were killed because of him.
Pennies for Hitler was sad in places as Georg had to leave the people he loved because of the war. Whenever he made friends they were always taken away from him.
My favourite character was Georg because he showed determination, fear, happiness and love.
I felt many feelings when I was reading this book. I felt a lot of sadness in the words as well as hatred and lots of fear of losing the war but also love, determination and kindness.
I recommend this book for any one over the age of 10. It’s also good for anyone who likes adventure and learning from books.
