for this year's holiday program, i decided to go with an elf theme! elves are HUGE these days! who doesn't love Buddy the Elf? that movie is hilarious!
and don't forget the ever popular Elf on a Shelf...
...found everywhere this time of year.
we had an elf kinda like this when i was growing up & he always creeped me out a little for some reason. anyway!
Books We Read:
Elf in the House was short & sweet -- great for my age group of 3-8 yrs old
Only You Can Save Christmas is great bc its very interactive! a little on the long side but so fun!
Don't Push the Button: Christmas Adventure- does NOT disappoint! perfect xmas story!
No time for How to Catch an Elf this time but it is super cute!
Elf Arts & Crafts:
Clothespin Elves & Elf Hat craft kits purchased from OTC.
VERY happy with both crafts!
Flannel Board: Five Little Elves Jumping on the Sleigh
Found the perfect printable at Picklebums!
i substituted Rudolf the reindeer for "Mama" in this rhyme & it worked great
Other Fun Elf Ideas:
i love to have a scavenger hunt or other similar game at my parties. this year, i decided to do a "Candy Cane Count!" i told the kids that my friend Twinkle the Elf (pictured above with our stories) had hidden candy canes all over the room for them to count. they wrote the # of candy canes they saw on a slip of paper & gave it to me to win a prize!
i also printed Elf Name generators for each table & everyone loved finding out their special Elf name!
i purchased christmas themed wristbands from amazon to give as prizes. we also provided refreshments of cookies, pretzels, juice & water.
Elf Photo Prop & Book Display:
a book display is a great way to get those holiday books circulating. this year i also set up a cute photo prop area for the kids to "Take an Elfie!"
i purchased this set from amazon & it is super sturdy, hopefully something i can reuse every year.
all in all, this was a great holiday party theme! registration filled up quickly, just a couple of no shows. everyone liked the books & crafts. so, a wonderful day!
