Review: Dear Zoo
Rod Campbell's lift-the-flap book, Dear Zoo, combines a young child's love of zoo animals and playing hide and seek. This winning combination has made it a family favourite for over three decades. In Dear Zoo a child writes a letter to the zoo asking them to send them a pet. What zoo animal would you like as a pet? Maybe it is an elephant, a lion, or a frog.
As the story unfolds we discover that some animals are just not suitable as a pet. I wonder which animal will be a the perfect pet? The ending will be a huge surprise.
Dear Zoo is an amusing and interactive story that gives space for children to guess and at times even predict what animal is in the crate/behind the flap. The repetitive phrases will soon have your toddler reading along as you tell the story. It is easy-to-read story with large text and bright illustrations on a white background.
Since its first publication in 1982, Dear Zoo has been printed in many formats. You can read Dear Zoo as a paperback, hardback, a lift-the-flap book, pop-up book, board book, noisy book, buggy book and soon it will also be available as a soft, snuggly cloth book (29 January 2019).
