Review: Let's Go Strolling

Toddlers and young children notice every small detail. Colours, animals, spider webs and rocks, all demand attention when strolling outdoors.

This lovely little story focuses in on a simple, everyday walk to the park and helps readers connect with the items and creatures they find on the way. 

Children will be engaged in going out for a walk, starting by getting ready, walking out of the house and naming things along the way.

The wordless open out spread in the middle encourages children to put themselves in the park and see all the people, trees, ducks and happenings that bring magic to the park. It then culminates with the uniting of the whole family as father and daughter meet up with mother and older brother in the park. They connect, discover and explore, then all walk home together.

Danny Snell’s illustration are striking in their simplicity. By focussing on the girl and her father, they enable the young reader to engage with the walk and its discoveries without being distracted by too much detail.

Let’s go Strolling is a delightful read aloud experience with young children. Its gentle rhythm and rhyme move the story along lightly and happily as we follow a child on her stroll with her father and, later, with the rest of her family. A great story to read with toddlers and young children to support early language and literacy development.
