We had two wonderful parent literacy workshops recently so i wanted to share them!

January Parent Literacy Workshop Stations:

We had a cute color matching station where the kids matched the hats to each penguin's scarf. i used velcro adhesive dots to make the hats stick to the penguins. Very easy to print, laminate and set up! Kids got a snowman sticker for completing this activity.

At station #2, we made shaving cream snowman sensory bags. i used to do this at my Toddler Programs but it can be difficult with a large group so this is less stressful. So easy to prep, i just drew smiles on the bags and cut black eyes & orange noses for the families to tape on the their bags before filling them with shaving cream. so cute!

i had a bunch of these hats printed & pre-cut so i set up a 3rd station this month. i put out a bunch of copies of Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear for families to read at the table & borrow if they wanted. this activity is a great way to introduce the important literacy skill of retelling a story!



February Parent Literacy Workshop:

i LOVED this animal rescue themed activity! i just popped a bunch of ocean animals into the white tub so kids could use the slotted spoon to scoop the animals out and place them in the big red bowl. this station was super popular which didn't really surprise me because anytime i put out a water toy, the kids go crazy for it! great for fine motor skill development!

Next up, we made pipe cleaner birdfeeders! so easy! just bend the pipe cleaner into a "V" shape and string on some cheerios. you can twist the top to make a heart OR make any shape you like. then attach a piece of yarn so you can hang from a tree. LOVE this one and so do the birds! also awesome for fine motor skills.

i purchased this awesome road mat and some cars for the kids to play with and it is so awesome! the best part is that the mat breaks down into 9 pieces for easy storage.

we had great turnout for these workshops despite brutal winter weather and i'm still amazed by the popularity of these simple play programs. whenever i mention the next one, so many parents tell me they would never miss it and it makes me so happy. i really love finding awesome toys and setting up activity stations with materials most people probably already have so the families can replicate them at home.
