Review: Maisy's Farm
Maisy’s Farm is the newest addition to the long list of books about the little white mouse named Maisy, this time with a novelty pop-out play scene.Farms are fun, but they’re a lot of work too! Maisy and her friends Cyril and Tallulah go to the farm where they complete chores such as driving the tractor, gathering eggs, feeding chicks, collecting produce and milking the cows.
The last page of Maisy’s Farm folds out into a pop-out barn play scene with figurines of Maisy, Cyril the squirrel, a cow, pig, chicken and a little lamb.
As always, the illustrations are perfect for young children, bright and bold with thick black outlines and an authentic gender-neutral colour palette. There are many details like apples on trees, a bee house and a watering can to point out and discuss.
The story is great for early language development, children will love to repeat the names, sound and actions of animals, like the hungry chicks who say ‘Cheep!’ and the tractor which goes ‘Chug, chug!’.
Other books from the Maisy series include Maisy Goes to a Wedding, Maisy Goes by Plane and Maisy Goes to the Bookshop.
