Review: Oink
The almost wordless book, Oink by David Elliot is both delightful and humorous. The story is told using only sounds and illustrations. The characters' body language and facial expressions are divine.
Pig is looking forward to a nice relaxing bath, naked. Just as pig lies back in the tub there is a knock on the door.
At the door is baby sheep, in her pink ruffled bathing suit briefs, carrying her boat. Maaa?
Before waiting for pig's response, lamb jumps into the tub and splashes pig.
Soon they are joined by cow with her beach ball and donkey with his floaty ring. Poor pig just wanted to relax rather than have a noisy playful bath with lots of company.
What is pig going to do to make them go away? The solution will have your children in fits of laughter.
Oink is a great book for pre-readers. The visual language used by Elliot is all that is needed to read the story, while still teaching children about print concepts.
