Flannel Board: One Astronaut Went Out to Play
First we put some planets, stars, moons, etc. on my black board to make a beautiful galaxy!
next i showed the kids this cool rocket i created from a plastic jar i had laying around my office for ages. i'd hidden some clip art astronauts in the rocket so i could stage a pretend "landing."
then i pulled one animal astronaut from the rocket at a time & placed it on the board as we sang:
one astronaut went out to play
in outer space so far away.
he had such enormous fun
he called for another friend to come!
"HEY, ASTRONAUT!"
we finished with...
six astronauts went out to play
in outer space so far away.
but it was time to say goodbye!
no more floating up in the sky...
then we counted as each astronaut returned to the rocket & they blasted off back home.

i bought colorful paper rockets (see first pic) at the dollar store a few months ago so i passed them out to each child for this awesome song!

Craft: Paper Rockets
i printed & pre-cut cardstock rockets so kids could color. we added an animal astronaut sticker and streamers to make flames.
i bought this headband on OTC & i've been wearing it for all our space themed programs!
this was a fun theme. one of the sessions was a HUGE but i loved the prop/puppet songs & the Maisy book. the craft was super fun also.
