toddler time: goodbye summer!

at the end of last summer, i did an ice cream theme for Toddler Time and it was super fun! i wasn't ready to do a total repeat but i did want to do something fun & special. i finally decided to do a twist on last year's summer treat theme and feature POPSICLES & LEMONADE!

mystery box: we found a popsicle! who likes popsicles? (lots of hands shot up in the air!) and also a glass of lemonade! who likes to drink lemonade? (poor lemonade was not as popular! i even heard somebody say YUCK!)

popsicles & lemonade are delicious summer treats - who LOVES summer?

books we read:
I See Summer- Ghigna ( how do you see? we see with our eyes! where are your eyes? this one is great for toddlers)
Maisy Makes Lemonade- Cousins (cute!)
If You're Happy & You Know It- Carter (always a hit! great way to end the summer!)

flannel board: 5 Melting Popsicles

i found this idea HERE

we put the adorable felt popsicles (purchased long ago on Etsy) on the blue board and named the colors. then we counted them up together.

5 melting popsicles cold & sweet
Child's NAME ate the COLOR one.
What a yummy treat!

countdown til all the popsicles are gone!

No more popsicles cold & sweet
I guess we’ll have to find
Something else to eat.

everyone loves it when i use their names for my felt boards! if i didn't know enought names, i was planning have my mascot mr frog eat all the popsicles
LOL!

craft: popsicle & lemonade puppets

we used crayons & scented dot art markers to decorate our cardstock popsicles & lemonades. we taped on popsicle sticks if they wanted.

lemonades got a hole punched and a cute straw!

these came out super cute. i don't always bring out the dot markers so it always feels special when we use them to craft.

2 decent sized groups today of about 18-20 kids each. i have a couple of toddlers in both sessions really struggling, either ready to age out  & attend preschool OR having adjusting problems, but things still went pretty well. bracing myself for the next couple weeks as the kids here go back to school & i lose a lot of my regulars which is always bittersweet but of course, necessary. all in all this was a pretty good summer for my early literacy programs! my lapsits & toddler times have been (mostly) a real pleasure lately.
