This beautifully presented book features 12 examples of children making a difference to the future of our world with their smart, resourceful actions. A few impressive examples include Felix in Germany; a changemaker for global reforestation, Amy and Ella in the UK who are aiming to abolish single-use plastic, and Nikita in the Ukraine who is turning school food waste into compost for his city.
Each spread focuses on a different climate-change action and begins with a confident, empowering statement, such as ‘I’m big enough to save our trees’, ‘I know enough to save bees’ and ‘We’re smart enough to stop buying single-use plastic’.
I love how a positive, contagious voice and succinct writing style is combined with beautifully detailed illustrations. Each spread tells its own story, bursts of inspiration and shows children that they too can make a difference; even at a young age.
The final spread lists easy to action ideas for saving the planet, ways to make your voice heard and a Further Reading list of website links which could lead on to more discussion or research. Old Enough to Save the Planet is a current and forward thinking, it would be a great classroom resource.
