Meet The Illustrator: Tanisha Tiwari

Name: Tanisha Tiwari

Describe your illustration style in ten words or less.
My art style is detailed and interactive with a lot of texture and elements.

What items are an essential part of your creative space?
Sketchbooks, a ton of pens, my Ipad and some of my old work:)

Do you have a favourite artistic medium?
It changes from time to time. Right now it’s digital art because I really enjoy being able to move around and create.

Name three artists whose work inspires you.
Chaaya Prabhat, Nora Zeid, Sarah Anderson

Which artistic period would you most like to visit and why?
Expressionism. As an artist, it meant getting in touch with yourself and your feelings so deeply that you are able to distort the reality to reflect it. As a viewer, it meant getting a window in an artist’s life.

Who or what inspired you to become an illustrator?
I loved Disney and Pixar’s work and animation and Illustration made me feel right at home. I felt connected with myself when I illustrated and I eventually decided to become an illustrator.

Can you share a photo of your creative work space or part of the area where you work
most often? Talk us through it.
My work spaces changes often. I feel as a creative person, it’s incredibly limiting to only be in
one space and try to create thousands of things. I love to sit in cafes, parks, bookstores, gardens and work. At home, this tiny space has been my working space. I like to keep my old
work, momentos and posters around to motivate me. I always want pens at a fingers distance
:D and it’s right next to a big window so I can look at the trees and the sky whenever I feel tired.

What is your favourite part of the illustration process?
Colouring has always been my favourite part. It makes me feel infinite. I could add so many colours, textures, layers to a piece and give it life. It makes an art piece alive.

What advice would you give to an aspiring illustrator?
I would ask them to keep going. It doesn’t happen in a day but it does happen one day. And I understand it sounds cliché, but I’ve been living next to a construction site for over a year now and every day they work for hours and it still looks like nothing, I stopped paying attention to it and then one day I was looking down and saw that there were floors and stairs and the houses were taking shape! We have to keep going, the very small everyday efforts too account for a lot in some time.
