The scene for Bush Turkey Easter Hunt it set with a reminder that bush turkeys like to create big, messy nests.
It’s while Bush Turkey is making a nest that he discovers a gold egg. This must be something special because it’s gold and shiny.
As he explores further afield Bush Turkey finds more and more eggs, in a range of colours, but all shiny.
Unfortunately, the humans are not happy with Bush Turkey scratching around. Not only is he causing a mess, he’s unaware that he’s wrecking the Easter egg hunt.
Bush Turkey just wants to return the eggs to the creature they must belong to, and asks all manner of animals if they own them.
He also ends up at the centre of a wild goose (or bush turkey) chase, but all’s well that ends well, because the eggs are unexpectedly returned to their hiding places. Just in time, too.
Bush Turkey is an appealing character, with long gangly legs and happy face, who means well but just can’t seem to keep out of trouble. Young readers will enjoy following his adventures, and spotting the frog who pops up in the illustrations throughout the story.
From the fabulous pairing of authors Kate and Jol Temple and illustrator Ronojoy Ghosh, Bush Turkey Easter Hunt is lots of fun.
