Review: A Canadian Year and A Kiwi Year

These books are so cool! I’m a big believer in introducing my kids to other cultures, other countries and how other kids around the world live, but I’ve often struggled to find engaging ways to do it.

Well, problem solved. Tania McCartney and Tina Snerling’s Kids’ Year series is the answer. Perfect for kids, with entertaining facts and funky illustrations, these books are fun, engaging and informative.

Books six and seven in the series are out this June. A Canadian Year and A Kiwi Year follow books about Australia, ScotlandEnglandNew York and Texas

In A Canadian Year, journey with Chloe, Oki, Ava, Liam and Noah through each month of the year and learn about their holidays, favourite foods, cultural traditions and more. You’ll discover that some Canadian kids ride snowmobiles to the shops, bears sometimes roam Canadian neighbourhoods and there’s a hotel in Quebec made of ice and snow.

Then travel on over to A Kiwi Year where Mason, Charlotte, Oliver, Ruby and Kaia have lots to say about their national days, favourite activities, local attractions and more. You’ll learn about the Maori way to greet people, a beach in New Zealand where the water gets hot and that Kiwi kids like to drink Milo (just like Aussie kids do!).

These are just a few of the amazing facts you will find between the covers. There are so many things to explore in these books and even more things to spark curiosity and get you and the kids looking up events and foods and things you wish you could do and see.

If you know these places, these books will be a trip down memory lane and cherished by your kids who will recognise favourite things and places. If you have never been to these places, you will gain the wonderful insight into other cultures and countries, and your kids will gain knowledge about the wider world around them.

These books are also fabulous for schools. They are educational books kids will want to pick up and explore, and EK Books provides teaching notes on their website to give you inspiration for lessons and activities.

I love these books. I love the fascinating facts and the vibrant illustrations. These are books for everyone in the family, and I can’t wait for the next instalment.
