What's Up Wednesday: January 2018
Happy Wednesday! Quite honestly, I'm not sad to see this month go. January is my least favorite month of the year and this month has been long and hard and riddled with sickness. Usually I'm sad at the passing of yet another month, but I'm frantically waving goodbye to January and, while February isn't my favorite either, welcoming it with open arms because I know it leads to the most glorious of all months and seasons: March and spring. So, as per usual, I'm linking up with Mel, Sheaffer and Shay for "What's Up Wednesday"...
...to answer the following questions:
{1} What We're Eating This Week
I typically go to the grocery store on Fridays (Walmart Grocery Pickup for the win!), so so far this week we have had: frozen pizza, Owen's White Chicken Chili and cornbread, baked spaghetti with Italian green beans and garlic bread, and meatloaf with smashed potatoes and peas. Clearly the "modified Whole 30" went out the window when Walker was sick last week and I haven't jumped back on that train just yet.
{2} What I'm Reminiscing About
I've been busy finishing and ordering the boys' annual photo books, so I've really been reminiscing about my teeny tiny babies. It makes me super nostalgic to go through their photo albums on my computer (saved in Google Photos) and then pull each photo over to the photo book project (I use the Apple iPhoto books). They are growing like weeds and I truly wish that time would just slow down. I look at the photos of Walker when Knox was born and remember thinking how old he looked to me then {at 2.5} and now, my gosh, he's a gangly four-year-old. It makes me so emotional doing these darn books, but I'm so glad my boys will have a photo "album" for each year of their life.
Walker - 2014 |
Knox - 2016 |
I've blogged about them countless times, but I'm still just loving my Zella leggings. They're so comfortable and versatile, and I love how well they hold up in the wash.
I'm also loving my iPhone X that Brandon got me for Christmas -- mostly for the portrait mode on the camera that makes me look like I (somewhat) know what I'm doing. ;) I found this case for it for $20 at Nordstrom, along with a completely, 100% matching Pop Socket for less than $5 from Amazon, and I'm loving both of those tremendously.
And finally, I'm loving this plug-in air sanitizer I found on Amazon! As y'all know, I'm clearly a clean freak/germophobe, so I love that this thing cleans the air and gets rid of bacteria with UV technology, and it also sanitizes the air and gets rid of yucky smells after cooking, or in Knox's room when the Ubbi is getting a little too full, etc.
{4} What We've Been Up To
January was one of those slow, yet also seemingly fast and furious months. It was riddled with sickness and some disappointment, so I don't have too many pictures documenting the month. We actually started looking at homes and even put an offer on one -- only to get to the inspection and found out the sellers were hardcore smokers and the home reeked of cigarette smoke and...we ended up terminating our contract. So just lots of emotional roller coasters this month. Home buying/selling in and of itself is a super stressful, emotional rollercoaster.
But, aside from all that, we have: gone on play dates with friends; taken trips to the library, the park, Chick-fil-A, our favorite little local diner, and Home Depot; gone on lots of walks and car rides when the weather allowed; raked leaves and gotten our house ready to go on the market when we close on another house; wore matching pajamas; I cut my hair into a "lob"; Knox started one-day-a-week preschool; Walker got sick and was home for a week; we converted Knox's crib into a "big-boy bed"; and we celebrated Walker turning FOUR!
{5} What I'm Dreading
I know it's awful to say, but I'm dreading February. It's still winter, still cold and flu season, and still chilly outside. Can you tell I'm ready for spring?
{6} What I'm Working On
I read Emily Ley's "The Simplified Life" and ever since then, I've been on a tear organizing and de-cluttering my house. (It helps that we're also working on getting our house ready to go on the market whenever we find a house to move into...) I just have been throwing away so much stuff that I honestly don't know why I ever held onto in the first place. Who needs 12 vases for flowers? Who needs the one sock that doesn't have a match -- and hasn't in three years? Who needs puzzles with missing pieces, or broken Matchbox cars? I'm sure our neighbors think we are recovered hoarders based on the amount of trash bags Brandon takes to the street each week. ;)
{7} What I'm Excited About
Walker has his Valentine's Day party coming up at school next month, and I'm in charge of it. (Eeeeek! Least crafty mom ever here!) It's always fun to see three- and four-year-olds at a party...they just get crazy and it always makes me giggle.
{8} What I'm Watching/Reading
As usual, we are watching "This is Us" (and of course I want to chunk my Crock Pot out the window now, ha!); and I'm trying to get back into "Blue Bloods" after a brief hiatus, and I really need to start watching the latest season of "Victoria." I recently finished "The Crown" and absolutely loved the second season -- bring on the third!
As I mentioned above, I just finished "The Simplified Life" and really need to get my rear end to my local library to check out a new book. Any suggestions?
{9} What I'm Listening To
At the current moment as I'm typing this, both boys are at preschool and the house is eerily quiet. I'm listening to the quiet hum of my air sanitizer going in Knox's room and the trash folks picking up our trash outside. But, as per usual in the car, we listen to this CD (the boys' favorite); I think I hear Knox ask for "Jesus Loves Me" (or as he says "Yah Jee Me Me") about 13.5 times per car trip anywhere. ;)
{10} What I'm Wearing
Still living in my Zella leggings (of course), but I'm also wearing the two below shirts on repeat this winter, but they're both sadly sold out at Nordstrom already (boo!). My typical uniform this time of the year is leggings, tennis shoes and a long-sleeved shirt (and the #MomBun), but when I get dressed to go anywhere, you can find me donning one of those shirts. They're so comfy and well-priced!
We have a birthday party for Knox's best friend, Sawyer, on Saturday morning and a gender reveal party for Brandon's brother and our sister-in-law on Saturday evening. (I'm totally Team Boy!) Hopefully we can find some downtime on Friday night and Sunday.
{12} What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month
Honestly, other than Valentine's Day, not too much! I'm hoping our weather will start to warm up here in North Texas and we can spend lots more time outside instead of cooped up inside. (And maybe some more houses will go on the market, too, that we like! Fingers crossed!)
{13} What Else is New
Not much else new to report around here. Happy Wednesday!
