toddler time: open your heart

I am so bummed about the snowy week we had right before Valentine’s Day; the bad weather completely ruined most of my program plans!

I had an adorable assortment of valentine themed crafts for Wednesday and my pre-reg was completely full. But only half the sign ups showed up because the storm was on the way. Boo!

My Valentine-themed Baby Lapsit: cancelled for a snow day.

I planned two super cute crafts for my toddlers today but I had a feeling that attendance would be sparse with the frigid temps and 6 inches of snow, so here I was, SCRAMBLING at the last minute with nothing set up. STRESSFUL!

Mystery Box: Inside our polka dotted box, we found two LOVE birds!

Puppet Song:
2 little love birds sitting on a hill
One named Jack, the other named Jill
Fly away Jack, Fly away Jill
Come back Jack, come back Jill

Books We Read:
We Love Each Other- Yonezu
Love from the Very Hungry Caterpillar- Carle (small in size but I made it very interactive so it worked fine)
Animal Kisses- Saltzberg

Flannel Board:  Red Heart, Red Heart, What Do You See?

...I see a pink heart looking at me, etc.

Prop Song: Laurie Berkner’s "There’s a Little Wheel Turning in My Heart"

After the VHC book, I had my Caterpillar puppet pass out hearts to all the kids.

We did:
Hold your heart up high
Hold your heart down low
Hold your heart & turn around
Hold your heart up high
Hold your heart down low

Put your heart on the ground

Then, we did the Berkner song with motions and puppets!

Craft: Heart puppet

I printed smiling hearts on cardstock and pre-cut them so kids could color and decorate with colorful pipe cleaner arms and legs. This craft was just ok, I wish I had time to prepare something more interesting.

Two small groups today: 7 in the early program, 6 in the second session. My favorite parts were the VHC book and puppet part.
